AME is licensed by the State of New York to remove electron capture sources from gas chromatographs. AME will remove the source, leak test it, package it and ship it for recycling or disposal. AME will notify your governing body as to the disposition of the source.
***NEW*** Field Gamma Spectroscopy
AME is now equipped to perform gamma spectroscopy in the field. AME will identify the isotope and estimate the activity. AME can help you prepare the source for shipment and disposal.
Radiation Contamination Surveys
This is our most popular service. AME will perform contamination surveys in your radioactive materials use areas on a frequency that you determine. Most of our clients for this service prefer to have it performed monthly. It is a great way to determine if your researchers are performing their own surveys correctly. Many regulatory agencies like the idea of an independent third party performing surveys to augment your own on-site program. Our reports include diagrams of the areas surveyed showing where samples are taken. Any contamination found with our survey meters is noted on the diagrams. The results of our sample analyses are presented on the same page with the diagram for easy reference.
Health Physics Consultation, Training and Program Audits
In addition to consulting prior to license renewal or amendment submission, AME can visit your facility and perform a license review and audit. This review is similar to an inspection and our team of professionals conducts the same type of thorough examination that you can expect from most regulatory authorities.
We are also experienced in setting up training programs for a variety of different applications and can answer any question about radiation safety. We can provide guidance for almost any type of radiation related project.
X-Ray Leakage Surveys
AME has the equipment necessary to survey your facilities for leakage from x-ray producing machines. We document any leakage found, evaluate your machine and procedures for compliance with applicable regulations, and make recommendations for improving x-ray operations.
Final Site Surveys, Decommissioning Funding Plans & Decontamination
Whether you are closing out a facility or moving your operations, AME can assist you in completing the decommissioning requirements. We perform a highly detailed survey designed for submission to the proper regulatory authority to close out your license. We can also assist you with decommissioning funding plans and cost estimates. We can provide decommissioning and decontamination services for any size facility. Our experienced staff has performed this service at numerous facilities, both large and small.
Bioassays
AME’s laboratory is equipped to analyze urine for all isotopes. During a routine survey, we will collect any samples you may want analyzed and report the results along with the contamination report. In addition, we have equipment available to perform in-vivo thyroid bioassays at your facility for users of I-125 and I-131.
Sealed Source Leak Tests
AME can take leak test samples of your sources and analyze them for removable activity as required by law.
Contamination Surveys
AME has a highly trained Health Physics staff that will visit your facility on a prearranged schedule to perform contamination surveys for both fixed and removable contamination. We gather smear samples and return them to our Orangeburg, New York facility for analysis. A report is issued to you within one week. Many customers are surveyed on a monthly basis but we modify the schedule to suit individual needs.
Instrument Calibrations
AME is licensed by the State of New York to perform radiation detection instrument calibrations. We calibrate alpha, beta, and gamma portable survey meters. We can calibrate most meters at your facility. On site calibrations eliminate shipping and delays and all of your meters will be calibrated on the same day. Calibrations can also be performed at your site while we are at your facility to provide you with some of the other services we offer. Please notify us before sending any equipment.
